L'Étranger - Albert Camus

Product Description

In June 1942, a short novel, The Outsider, appeared. The author was an unknown 28-year-old who was going to not only modify the history of French literature but also that of the philosophy of the 20th Century with his formulation of the absurdity of human destiny.

In April 1954, Albert Camus recorded the whole of his book for national radio (O.R.T.F). This wonderful recording has now been restored and is now available for the first time on CD.

This 3-CD set also includes a 16 page booklet (in French) written by Roger Grenier, who Camus helped to become a journalist for “Combat”, and who later wrote the Nobel prize winning author's  biography.

Synopsis:

Meursault leads an apparently unremarkable bachelor life in Algiers until he commits a random act of violence. His lack of emotion and failure to show remorse only serve to increase his guilt in the eyes of the law, and challenges the fundamental values of society a set of rules so binding that any person breaking them is condemned as an outsider.

For Meursault, this is an insult to his reason and a betrayal of his hopes; for Camus it encapsulates the absurdity of life.

In “The Outsider” (1942), his classic existentialist novel, Camus explores the predicament of the individual who refuses to pretend and is prepared to face the indifference of the universe, courageously and alone.
