Una de las primeras obras en prosa de la literatura en castellano (siglo XIV), El conde Lucanor es una colección de cuentos de diferentes tradiciones (oriental, griega…), que el autor presenta a través del diálogo entre dos personajes: el conde Lucanor y su consejero Patronio. Tratan diferentes argumentos, y todos acaban con una moral. Obra de carácter didáctico, en que el autor mezcla varios géneros: el diálogo, el ejemplo, el proverbio, la argumentación con el objetivo de dar consejos para vivir mejor.
