Saravah is a widely celebrated French record collection founded by the musician Pierre Barouh, a household name in France, in 1965. It has been said that Barouh is to music as Godard is to cinema or Duras to literature. This beautiful collection of songs covers the years when the question of liberty was tackled by most major artists in their refusal of Americanism and holding on to the roots of French song. Today, to remember Saravah is to remember Jacques Higelin, Brigitte Fontaine, Jean-Roger Caussimon and Areski Belkacem.
