Students are invited on a discovery of the Italian language and culture in this straightforward beginner's course for adults and adolescents. The clear and simple structure is easy to follow and revolves around a story of three foreign students who are studying in Italy. The course adopts a textual approach which is action-oriented, encouraging students from the outset to actively engage with the language and culture - both within and beyond the classroom - in order to develop communicative competence and intercultural skills that can be applied in a variety of contexts.
The course will cover five levels of the CEFR, from beginner's level A1 to advanced level C1. Each level, offering approximately 90 hours of lessons, consists of a single volume comprising a coursebook with further exercises intended for study at home and downloadable audio tracks.
Topic-based language and structures are introduced gradually through written and verbal texts (such as dialogues, emails) which are broken down step-by-step following basic comprehension: the section "Parola per parola" takes a closer look at the vocabulary, "Cosa dici per..." focuses on the communicative aspects, followed by "Le strutture della lingua" which deals with the grammar. A further section, "Dentro il testo", covers textual analysis and prompts students to put the language and skills they have learned into practice by completing written and oral production tasks. Lastly, "L'Italia in pillole" presents short authentic texts (such as news articles) that provide insights into aspects of Italian society and culture.
Each unit concludes with a visual mind map of the content covered followed by consolidation sections on the vocabulary and grammar. Revision tests and self-assessment sheets are provided at intervals to monitor progress. The course also features fun grammar videos, ideal for use with an interactive whiteboard, to diversify the lessons and aid understanding.
