La femme de trente ans was written between 1829 and 1842 in six parts and forms part of Balzac's Comédie humaine series which originated from Dante's 'The Divine Comedy'. These parts are brought together as six chapters of the novel as the they form a story of the deception of Juliette who marries against her father's advice and discovers her father was right...By remaining faithful, to her husband, Juliette will pain her lover and dreadful consequences will befall her family's happiness. This is a study of society and woman at the start of the 19th century, accompanied by a booklet containing an interesting chronology and analysis of the novel.
