All the kanji and related vocabulary words in this book are those that students are expected to know for Level 5 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. (JLPT). Characters that appear in the AP Japanese Language and Culture Exam are flagged. Readings, meanings, and common compounds are presented. The correct method of writing each character is clearly indicated and practice boxes with strokes that can be traced are provided, along with empty boxes for freehand writing practice. 
Lots of exercises are included to give students the opportunity to practice writing sentences containing the Kanji. Indexes at the back allow you to look up the characters by their readings and English meanings.

Dr. Eriko Sato is Assistant Professor in the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She teaches Japanese language, linguistics and pedagogy as well as translation studies and acquisition of Asian languages. She serves as the adviser for teacher education program for Japanese. Dr. Sato developed numerous courses including the first online Japanese course at her University. She has also authored or co-authored a number of books for teaching and learning Japanese including Contemporary Japanese, Japanese Demystified, Japanese for Dummies, Complete Japanese Grammar, Basic Japanese, Basic Japanese: Introduction of the Structure of Japanese, Essential Japanese Grammar, My First Japanese Kanji Book, and Learning Japanese Kanji.
