The film that made Amenábar’s name was produced with remarkably little time or money considering its enormous success (winner of seven Goya awards as well as picking up prizes at a number of international festivals). The horror unravels in the Hitchcock tradition and explores censorship and our inherent obsession with violence. The protagonist is a young film student in Madrid who gets caught up in a dark snuff film ring whilst researching her thesis. When the victim of the snuff film turns out to have been a former University student, she starts to get caught up in a dangerous and thrilling chase with many twists and turns in the plot.
Starring Ana Torrent and Fele Martínez.
