According to the findings of poll of 500 UK employers commissioned by CILT, languages came second only to IT in a list of desirable skills for job candidates. The report findings, as covered by Personnel Today, go on to state that one in four (43%) recruiters say speaking a second language gives a candidate the x-factor when applying for a job. This is all good news in practice, but judging by the comments that follow the article most jobseekers have yet to feel the benefit in the job market.
