Sunday 26th of September 2010 marks the European Day of Languages. Set up by the Council of Europe in 2001, the idea of the European Day of Languages (EDL) is to show people across Europe how important languages are, and what fun can be had learning them. For adult language learners, the Council of Europe's European Day of Language web site has a useful, interactive 'Self-evaluate your language skills' game designed to help you assess your level of proficiency in the languages you know according to the six reference levels defined within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). For those not au courant, the  scale of reference, developed within the Council of Europe's CEFR in 2001, is recognised as a European standard for grading an individual's language proficiency and is becoming more widely used within national language education systems, in certification and by employers.
