Does every cloud really have a silver lining? Well it would seem so as Language Networks for Excellence reports that  language experts and the City and Guilds exam board are taking another look at offering an alternate A level qualification in the light of Britain's Coalition government withdrawing funding for a language diploma. Since 2004, when a language qualification became optional in state schools, there's been a marked decline in learning. The Language Diploma was meant to reverse the trend. However like a phoenix, there is still hope it'll rise from the ashes in some form and give students a change to study science or humanities subjects in their chosen foreign language. Interesting to hear other people's views on this.
